The dreary rain this evening cannot dampen my joyful mood because I can finally walk up stairs! I still need my crutches to walk, but I can finally put enough weight on my right foot that I can walk, rather than crawl or jump, up the five flights of stairs to my apartment… and I’ve only been in physical therapy for a week! As I gathered with some friends on my roof deck and watched the amazing fireworks display over the river, all I could think is that today is truly a day of independence.
